The trap in this question
When a hiring manager asks you, “Why should we hire you over other candidates?”, he is not actually asking you to be arrogant or show off, and he does not want stereotypical answers like, “Because I work hard and can handle the pressure.” It simply asks you to summarize the “value” you will add to the company.
The “Golden Triangle” Answer Strategy
To provide a model answer that will not be rejected, your answer should include three interconnected sides:
- The first side (your skills): Explain that you have the ideal combination of skills required for the job (combine technology with personality).
- The second side (Your experience/results):Provide quick evidence from your previous experience that proves that you can solve a problem that the company is currently struggling with.
- Third Edge (Company Culture): Show your alignment with the company's vision and culture to demonstrate that you will not be just a passing employee, but part of the family.
Practical Example of Quote
“You should hire me because I have 5 years of experience in retail sales improvement (skill), and in my job Previous: I was able to increase branch revenues by 20% within six months by implementing a new loyalty system (result). Additionally, I have followed your company’s recent expansion in the region, and I believe that my speed of adaptation and dedication to customer service are perfectly aligned with your vision for expansion and excellence (culture).”
