I finally received the job offer! Wait, don't sign right away. Learn about the mistakes many people make during the final contract negotiation.

The Decisive Moment

Receiving a job offer is a happy moment, but it is also the beginning of the most important negotiations of your career in the company. What you agree to today will determine your income for years to come. Here are the mistakes you should avoid:

Common Mistakes

  • Immediate Acceptance: Once you receive the offer, don't say “yes” right away! Thank them and ask for 24 to 48 hours to review the contract. This gives you time to think and shows that you are a careful person who does not make rash decisions.
  • Negotiate in separate parts: Do not write to them today to increase the basic salary, and then tomorrow to increase the vacation days. Gather all your requests into one coherent, logical message (or call).
  • Use threats (Ultimatum): Don't say, “Either you give me this salary or I won't work with you.” Instead say: “I'm very excited to join, and if we can adjust the salary to [number], I will sign the contract immediately.”
  • Ignore Allowances and Development: If base salary is non-negotiable (due to budget), negotiate a sign-on bonus, or a budget for training, or remote work days.
