The shocking truth about the cover letter
According to the latest statistics in 2026, more than 60% of hiring managers never read the cover letter! But, the remaining 40% consider it a decisive factor in choosing between two candidates with the same qualifications. So, not including it means you risk losing almost half of your chances.
When is a cover letter (mandatory)?
- When the company explicitly requests it in the job advertisement. (Not sending it here means you will be immediately rejected because you did not follow the instructions.)
- When you are changing your career path (Career Shift), where you must explain why you are moving from one field to another and how your previous experience will benefit them.
- When you have a long gap in your CV and need to justify it.
Structure of the Killer Cover Letter
Do not copy your CV in the letter! Instead, follow this structure:
- A compelling opening: Start with a strong accomplishment or demonstrated passion for the company's mission rather than “I'm writing to apply for...”
- Value-added: Explain the problem the company has (research it) and how your skills can solve it.
- Closing and Call to Action (CTA): Ask directly but tactfully to set up an appointment For a call or interview to discuss details.
